St Helena Bay suspect arrested

St Helena Bay suspect arrested

Police in St Helena Bay have taken a suspect into custody, after he allegedly illegally gained access to a business premises in the area (just after midnight on 6 September 2022).

“We responded to an alarm signal along Marine Street and sent an armed response officer to investigate. He found signs of forced entry and alerted our control room to send the SAPS and to also inform the customer,” explains Riaan van Tonder, West Coast branch manager for Fidelity ADT.

There were signs of ceiling boards and tiles being damaged. It appeared that someone was searching through items inside the building.

“Our officer noticed at this point that a tall cupboard was standing inside the bathroom. It was large enough for a person to hide inside, and our officer tested his hunch by looking inside which is where the suspect was located,” says Van Tonder.

The unknown person was promptly detained and taken into custody by the SAPS who had already arrived at the scene.

“No matter where you hide, our officers and the St Helena SAPS will catch you if you commit a crime,” says Van Tonder.
