New Year’s Resolutions – A Quarter Down, Are You Still on Track?

As we wrap up the first quarter of 2024, it’s time to reflect on our New Year’s resolutions. For many, personal safety was a top priority. But how are we doing on those resolutions? Are we still on track, or is there anything to change?

Charnel Hattingh Group Head of Marketing & Communications at Fidelity Services Group says, “We understand the importance of personal safety. We believe it’s never too late to start or to get back on track. Here are some general personal safety tips to help you stay safe:

  1. Stay Alert: Always be aware of your surroundings. Whether you’re at home, at work, or on the street, staying alert can help you spot potential dangers before they become threats.
  2. Trust Your Instincts: If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Trust your gut feelings and take action to ensure your safety.
  3. Secure Your Home:  Good home security starts with a secure perimeter, which then needs to be supported by proper security on the actual property (garden, entertainment areas, garden shed). Electric fencing, outdoor beams, CCTV, and sensor lights are proven deterrents.
  4. Be Cautious Online: Be careful about the personal information you share online. Use strong, unique passwords for each of your accounts and be wary of unsolicited emails or messages.
  5. Have an Emergency Plan: Prepare for different types of emergencies, such as fires, floods, or power outages. Have a plan and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do. Everyone should know how to reach their security company and the police quickly by phone or by using the alarm system and panic buttons

Remember, personal safety is a continuous journey, not a destination. It’s okay if you’ve veered off track with your New Year’s resolutions. What matters is that you recognise it and make the necessary changes.  Have a security assessment done. Advice from a security expert can help you decide on security to suit your lifestyle and living spaces.
