Home security system leads to Hout Bay arrest

Alarm activation leads to Hout Bay arrest

A home security system that works properly and is monitored by an armed response company, can play a huge part in protecting you from crime. This was again shown over the weekend (Sunday 17 October 2021 at around 12h45) when a suspect was arrested at a home in Hout Bay.

“We responded to an alarm signal from the residence on Forresters Close and our armed response found one of the residents standing outside the property. She was in obvious distress and told our officer that the same address suffered a break-in a few days prior,” explains Mr. Jade Hanning, Western Cape General Manager at Fidelity ADT.

“Our officer entered the property to investigate, and found signs that there was an attempt to steal copper pipes while the fence at the back of the property was damaged.”

Hanning says the officer called for backup from colleagues, and two vehicles soon arrived at the address. One officer remained with the resident to look after her, while the other officers went to further search the property.

“The officers found signs that the back fence was broken so that a suspect could gain access to the property, and after a while they also located an alleged suspect where he was hiding in bushes. Copper pipes were also found next to him,” says Hanning.

“Our officers called for the South African Police Service (SAPS) to come to the scene and take the suspect into custody. Well done to our officers for coming to the aid of the resident, especially as she was obviously distressed after a similar incident a few days ago.

“My advice to residents of Hout Bay is to test their alarm systems regularly and to always keep them armed, even if you are at home. It is also a good idea to test the battery backup systems, to make sure your alarm still protects your property even when there are planned or unplanned power cuts.”
