Public safety officers in Hermanus arrested a number of suspects over the past few days. The officers are part of Hermanus Public Protection (HPP), a ratepayer-funded initiative in partnership with Fidelity ADT.
The arrests relate to the possession of possible stolen items, dangerous weapons, and housebreaking implements.
Two of the arrests were carried on Tuesday 30 November 2021, according to Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
“The HPP CCTV operators spotted suspicious movement in the CBD at around 01h30 that morning and sent an officer to investigate. The alleged suspect was quickly located and found to be in possession of housebreaking implements as well as a metal parking bollard, and he was arrested by Hermanus SAPS,” says Boshoff.
The second incident was at around 08h21 that same day when a public safety officer reported a suspicious person walking towards Swallow Park carrying a large box.
The box was found to be containing three brand new pairs of shoes, a hand saw, an extension cord, light fittings and other loose items.
“The officer questioned the person and was told that the items were given to him by an employer. On further investigation, this proved to be inaccurate and the suspect was handed over to the SAPS, who arrested him on a charge of being in possession of the possible stolen property.”
The third incident, says Boshoff, took place on Friday 26 November 2021. “Members of the Hermanus Neighbourhood Watch contacted the HPP to ask for assistance with three suspects in the CBD. When HPP officers arrived, they encountered three men who were found in possession of drugs, dangerous weapons, and housebreaking implements. All three suspects were handed over into the custody of Hermanus SAPS.”
Boshoff thanked the officers for their hard work. “I know they are ready and prepared for the December festive season, and stand ready to respond to any act of crime or criminality in and around Hermanus. Please contact them immediately if you see anything suspicious so that they can come to your aid.”
