Police arrested a suspect in Grassy Park on a charge that he was attempting to steal items from a local grocery store.
“One of our armed response officers had stopped at the shop (on 15 June 2022) when the store manager approached him. He asked that our officer assist with a shopper who was acting in a suspicious manner,” explains Mr Jade Hanning, Western Cape General Manager for Fidelity ADT.
The officer was shown the suspect in question. It was suspected that the person was hiding items under his clothes, and he was stopped as he tried to leave.
“Our officer asked to search the shopper, which led to the discovery of a bottle of cooking oil. The suspect was detained and handed over into the custody of Grassy Park SAPS,” says Hanning.
Meanwhile in a separate incident in Kirstenhof, another suspect was arrested when he trespassed at a residential property in the area.
“One of our officers was sent to investigate in Marlbrook Street. As he stopped outside the house, he noticed an unidentified person jumping the wall and running away,” says Hanning.
The officer pursued the suspect and apprehended him before escorting him back the residence. The homeowner confirmed that this was the person he had seen earlier trying to break into his garage, which led to the initial call for help.
“This suspect was also handed detained and handed over into police custody. Kirstenhof SAPS opened a case of trespassing against him. Well done to our officers for their good work in the Deep South region.”
