Fraudulent fuel seller arrested

Fraudulent fuel seller arrested

A joint operation led to the arrest of a fraudulent fuel seller recently.

“On Monday, 31st October, information was received regarding an individual who was selling diesel and petrol from containers at a taxi rank in Ndwedwe. Members from our Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU), local SAPS, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Durban and Anti-gang Task Team collaborated to investigate,” explains Charnel Hattingh, head of communications and marketing for the Fidelity Services Group.

The suspect was seen taking 5 litre containers of fuel from the back of his truck and selling them to numerous drivers from different vehicles. Further investigation revealed that he did not have any legal documents or a licence to sell petrol or diesel.

“The suspect was placed under arrest for Contravention of the Petroleum Act 120/1977, Dealing in petrol and diesel without a valid permit,” says Hattingh.

Transnet investigators were also called out to the scene where samples were taken for testing to establish if the petroleum products were taken from the Transnet pipeline. Transnet has not released the results of their analysis as yet.

“We congratulate everyone involved in this joint operation for their collaborative efforts in keeping KZN safe.”
