A private security guard has been praised for her vigilance which led to the arrest of a suspect in Kloof. Fidelity ADT Localized Security Site (LSS) guard, Zandile Dlamini, was on patrol in Wellington Road shortly after 07h30 on the 28th July when she noticed a man, further down the road, jumping over a boundary wall.
“Our officers are trained and equipped to look out for anything out of the ordinary or suspicious when they are conducting their patrols. The idea is to have a visible, proactive presence in an area and not to just sit back and wait for alarm activations,” says Charnel Hattingh, Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity ADT.
Officer Dlamini immediately called for back-up and Armed Response Officer (ARO), Nhlanhla Msomi arrived within one minute. ARO Msomi spotted the suspect running, gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect. The suspect, who was found in possession of stolen copper pipes and shoes, was handed over for arrest to members of the Pinetown South African Police Service (SAPS).
Hattingh commended Officers Dlamini and Msomi for their vigilance and bravery. “Security officers are often the unsung heroes of society and regularly go beyond the call of duty to keep our neighborhoods safe. We are proud to play a part in actively protecting the Kloof community and remain committed to ensuring the safety of its residents. I encourage the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to their private security company or the local SAPS immediately,” she concluded.
