Welgemoed stolen TV recovered

Welgemoed stolen TV recovered

Police in Welgemoed arrested a suspect earlier this week (Monday 13 December 2021, at around 11am) when he was found in possession of a stolen flat-screen TV.

“One of our armed response officers was patrolling along Kommissaris Street when he noticed an unidentified person carrying a large object covered by a blanket. On further inspection, this object turned out to be a TV set,” explains Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager at Fidelity ADT.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property, and the SAPS was called to the scene.

“The police soon arrived to take the suspect away for questioning, and it was later confirmed that a home along Van Jaarsveld Street had earlier been burgled and a TV set and a blanket was reported stolen. Police arrested the suspect in connection with the burglary,” says Hulme.

The same armed response officer was involved in another arrest the following day (Tuesday).

“The Welgemoed CID control room was alerted to a gate standing open at an address along Imhoff Street, and our officer was sent to investigate. We managed to make contact with the home owner and he requested that our officer close the gate. He also closed the garage door that was standing open,” says Hulme.

The home owner contacted the company an hour later, asking for a meet-and-greet service to meet him at his home. Hulme says the same officer was still close by, and made his way to the Imhoff Street address. “As he approached the address, he noticed an unidentified person in the driveway holding various household items. The person was detained on suspicion of being involved in a home burglary, and handed over to the Bellville SAPS. The registration details of a car that was seen driving away from the home was also shared with the police as well as the WCID monitoring centre so that officers in the area are alerted,” says Hulme.
