Panic alarm leads to Groeneweide Park arrest.

A suspect was arrested in Groeneweide Park (on 6 June 2024) after he allegedly gained access to a residential property in the area. The items he was reportedly trying to steal were all recovered.

“We received a call for help just after 2pm on the day and sent an armed response officer to investigate. When he arrived, he saw signs that the alleged suspect was still on the property,” explained Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Communications and Marketing at Fidelity ADT.

It appears that the suspect gained access by jumping over the back wall that bordered on an open field. He was in the process of trying to transfer his stolen items over the wall when the armed response officer arrived at the house.

“The suspect was detained and handed over to the SAPS and the property owner opened a case with the police,” says Hattingh.

“We recommend that homeowners and business owners in George do a regular audit of their security systems. Make sure they offer adequate security and that there is a reliable battery as backup. It is also important to pay attention to perimeter security such as electric fencing or outside motion detection beams. If you have any questions, contact your security company today.”
