Security cash van Driver commended for bravery in CIT incident
The driver of a Fidelity Cash Solutions van has been commended for bravery following a cash in transit incident which occurred today in the North of Pretoria.
Wahl Bartmann, Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Services Group confirms the incident happened at approximately 10:00 this morning. “Our Fidelity Cash Services vehicle was busy with a collection parked at the Ultra Liquors Zambezi Junction. When our crewman returned to his van he was confronted with five armed suspects who attempted to relieve him of his firearm. Unfortunately in the struggle our crewman was shot in the stomach. He has subsequently been transported to hospital and is in a stable condition.”
Bartmann says the driver of the CIT cash van when the incident occurred showed enormous bravery. “When our crewman was shot our driver went to his aid and managed to retrieve all of the money bags and even gave chase to the perpetrators who fled in all directions, knocking down one of the perpetrators in the process.”
With the support of SAPS all five perpetrators have been apprehended and arrested and there was no cash loss.
“Our driver will be receiving a bravery award for his fearlessness and quick thinking in a very dangerous and stressful situation. We also commend our crewman and hope he continues to recover well,” concludes Bartmann.
