Cash in Transit heist – Witpoortjie
Following a spike in cash in transit heists over the last two months, the latest attack took place yesterday, Tuesday 22 September, in Witpoortjie at around 11:00.
A Fidelity Security Officer collecting cash from a service station in Witpoortjie, Roodepoort was attacked by two suspects, one carrying an automatic rifle as he was entering his vehicle and cash was stolen.
A gold Mercedes Benz with three suspects then attempted to block the CIT van and instructed the driver to open the vehicle to access any further cash and firearms in the vehicle. When he refused and the suspects were unable to access the vehicle, they fled the scene in a white Audi A4 and the gold Mercedes Benz C class.
“We are very concerned about the spike in incidents. We definitely saw a decline in the first half of the year but this is changing rapidly. At present there have been no arrests but we are working closely with SAPS and our Specialist Investigative teams. Any information from the public is welcome and should be communicated immediately,” concludes Bartmann.
