Attempted CIT ambush In Hermanstad
At approximately 06:31 today a team from a Fidelity Cash in Transit team were ambushed at Hornsneck M17 Road Akasia Hermanstad by an unknown number of armed perpetrators.
The Fidelity Cash Solutions vehicle was rammed at high speed by a silver Mercedes Benz. The sudden impact caused the Fidelity driver to lose control of the vehicle which overturned landing in a ditch next to the road. The Fidelity crew came under heavy fire; however they managed to defend against the attack, causing the perpetrators to flee.
The armed driver of the silver Mercedes Benz was caught as he was still trapped in the damaged vehicle. He was later transported to hospital under police guard after sustaining minor injuries from the crash.
Unfortunately a member of the Fidelity team passed away on the scene.
The perpetrators were unable to access any cash from the van and fled empty handed. Wahl Bartmann, CEO of Fidelity Services Group, said he was very concerned about this latest incident. “Our sincere condolences go out to the family of our deceased officer. We cannot release any details until his family has been informed. We will continue working closely with the SAPS during their investigation and ensure all the perpetrators are brought to book,” he says.
